We have a leak that we think is stemming from our shower/tub combo.
It is 12 years old.
We are in the process of taking out the faucet to check for leaks, but cannot figure out how.
We do not know the brand to do a search.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Can't be sure but that looks like a Moen valve to me. Under neath the handle there should be a set screw, loosen and remove the handle. Remove the cartridge cover sleeve, may just pull off or may screw off.

You are right it is a Moen (spelling)
So here is a picture of where my husband is at.
He can't figure out how to get that black thing off.

Goodness the flash makes it look so gross.

Again,
Thanks for your helpl

Take another pic, at a bit of an angle, too much reflection from chrome cover.

I am not sure which one is your faucet, open the links below will show you the parts for the fauset, next step to remove the clip retainer Part number 96914 and remove the cartridge numbe 1222, also you can call Moen to get a new cartridge for free, good luck.
