I hired a contractor to repair irental property after a fire. The contractor that I hired charge me 58,000 to complete 2 floors and build a back porch, and electrical work . The contractor only finish 1 floor and went over exiting burnt wood on my back porch. I gave him 50,000 with the remaining of 8,000. The contractor added additional 7,000 to the bill stating that I needed a service to turn on my electrical when I question about 4,000 bill for electrical service. He stated that it wasn't included with the electrical. Then I ask how do you turn on lights with out a box. I called the Electrion who was supposed todo the Job He STATED THAT HE DIDN'T DO THAT jOB @ THE SITE. Also service come with a full service. That's the only way your light will come on. The contractor demanded 15,000 more. And went a filed a mechanic lien on my residential property. How Can I get this off my home that work was never done ?

Don't worry about it unless you are planning to sell or refiance the home within the next few months. Mechanics lien expire within that sort of a time unless the "mechanic" follows it up with a lawsuit.

But it sounds like you may need to sue the contractor for fraud, and for repayment for services not done.
