Hello everyone :) I need some assistance...

I have a fat dog.

She's huge! And I don't get why. Had her thyroid checked about 3 years ago or so.. and she came up good. No problems at all. I'm thinking about getting her retested. Does thyroid problems pop up as dogs get older?

She's a pittie and rottie mix. We call her a rotten pit ;) She's spayed.

The thing that puzzles me the most is she only gets fed a cup and a half twice a day so a total of 3 cups each day. All my dogs are very active and she is the only chubby one in the group. She gets plenty of exercise. I wish I could push her more on that end, but she has a bum leg (born that way) and favors it pretty bad if she pushes herself to hard on a run.

She's been on diet food and lost a little bit of weight. When I first started to notice she was getting large, she was stealing everyone's food. I did put a stop to that which helped greatly in her weight loss the first round.

She gets only dog biscuits as treats, no human food. I feed high protein foods which I understand is suppose to keep dogs naturally "fit".. The diet food I put her on was very high in protein. I also cut her back by 1/4 of what she was normally getting. Everything was going good and then suddenly she just stopped losing weight and started gaining it all back again.

She's a very young dog still.. She's only 5. But she reminds me of a Yorkshire Pig in every way. Its hot right now, and she's all black.. She doesn't move much.

I don't know what to do. I'm kind of at a loss. I tried her diet all over again and nothing changed. I kept at it for months but she never lost weight but continued to gain. I stopped buying the diet food because it was expensive and obviously wasn't working. She is now eating the reg. adult dog food.

My poor chubby girl :( lol

Lucky, will she swim? Max has a bad leg, and is pretty over weight. Swimming has done him wonders.

Some dogs are just naturally chubby. Sounds like you are doing every thing right.

Nope, she'll get her belly wet. If she swims its on accident and won't go back in the water afterwords. And... on top of that she's not a good swimmer.. she tends to sink low in the water.. Its funny to watch, but I'm sure its no fun for her lol
