View Full Version : We are all dead anyway

So what's the good news; you say? It isn't going to happen for another 16,000,000 years, or perhaps a little earlier, if we are unlucky
Life on Earth wiped out every 27 million years - and it's not the fault of Nemesis | News.com.au (http://www.news.com.au/technology/life-on-earth-wiped-out-every-27-billion-years-and-its-not-the-fault-of-nemesis/story-e6frfro0-1225891466185)
So what's the point of worrying about climate change and a sustainable future when it will all be swept away anyway? Mass extinction events are a regular thing, just a part of nature, and if we haven't found the exact reason yet, we have 16,000,000 years to work on it. Sort of puts the Mayan long count in a new perspective, they just didn't count long enough. But we had better get NASA off their but and back in the exploration game, it appears it will be more useful than giving every muslim youth a worthwhile experience

2012 you have the perfect convergence . The end of the Mayan calendar and Obama's re-election campaign.

Well that would be quite close to the truth as the Centre of the Universe is a UNBELIEVABLY dense body known as a Super massive Black Hole.
Kind of fitting really ;)
Nothing can escape, not even Common Sense..

Now we shouldn't take that as a racist comment should we?

Well thank you Tom I'd post more if I thought it was interesting but Red Julia has sucked the interest out of everything, talk about a wet blanket. We used to have female commentator called non event but I think Red Julia is going to claim the prize. The little red fox has gone to ground. You are right we hear very little about Canada, they must keep their heads down over there either that or there is a news blackout.

It is interesting that your gripe is the US centric activity on this board while little is contributed by Canadians as far posting subjects for discussion about Canada.
Ben thinks his nation is boring . I think it's fascinating .As an example... today we learn that Bishops in the Church of England are now permitted to become nuns.

Good thing I have a well defined sense of humour then.
Actually I'd rather people make fun of me as it saves me a job doing it myself ;)

No I can provide the link to the editor who is making fun of recent decisions of the church (if the board source monitor approves )
Church of England bishops 'will be allowed to become nuns', according to Synod source – Telegraph Blogs (http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/damianthompson/100047249/church-of-england-bishops-will-be-allowed-to-become-nuns-according-to-synod-source/)

That's so funny Tom, cheers.
Mind you I suppose it's only right and proper in these enlightened and gender equality times.

Well, paraclete, just what was the point of your post anyway? It's well known that the earth goes in cycles like the dinosaurs, etc. ice ages, etc.
You really must have gotten up in a grouchy mood to post that...

Next year 2011 is when all the hype starts drumming up. Just like it did in 1999 before the big (cough) crash since we couldn't count past 2000. Lol

I think my point is obvious, we are bombarded by news of things we don't need to know, like the Earth will be wiped out in 16,000,000 years. Somewhat insignificant when we are contemplating the Earth as we know it being wiped out in 100 years from our own efforts, or wiped out by an asteroid in 30 years. Now you make a good point about cycles, we have this hysteria about climate change when there is strong evidence it is part of a cycle, just an interlude between ice ages.
I think it is high time we woke up to the way we are being manipulated by researchers and the media, just as we are mainpulated by politicians and the media. My comment about the little red fox is obvious you couldn't keep her out of the media before her take over and now she is quiet
