Does a step parent have to pay child support for his step children if the birth father is not involved? I know of a case where family of two step children and biological child is facing. The lawyer is telling the step father that he has to pay child support for the two step children. He want visitation rights since he has been the father figure for 7 years

First the lawyer for the other side is liable to tell them anything, lying ( I am sorry, telling them their preferred side of the story) is common, that is why you go to court.
But next as a step father he won't get any visitation either, having normally no legal right.
There are some cases where a step father has acted as father for long enough, that the courts have taken them as the father in court, then he may get visits but will have to pay child support.
He can not get visits unless he is reconised as father and then he would have to pay support. *** these types of rulings are very rare.

Please pay more attention to posting guidelines. There is a Read First sticky in the Divorce forum (where this was moved from) that directs questions of a legal nature to this forum.
Which lawyer is saying this? There are circumstances where it might be true. Does the step father have his own attorney?
