What would be the most one can recover in monetary damages if an employee of a company releases information without the person's permission and as a result the person is harmed?

It would depend if the information is TRUE. If it is, nobody is required to keep your secrets - not even a company.

What makes you think those privacy policies protect YOU?? They DON'T. They protect the company. You should read it next time.

There is no way to accurately answer your question. What one can recover depends on a number of factors, like the nature of the offense, the actual damages, the court that hears the case, the agreement signed etc.
Also, not all consumers or employees sign such agreements, so they are not standard.
