View Full Version : Pregnant and working/being in 2 different labs all week?

I just found out I'm about 5 weeks pregnant and I'm concerned because I am around very dangerous chemicals usually 5 days a week (including various carcinogens, methanol, NAOH, HCL, benzoic acid, etc.). I am in an organic chemistry lab 2 days a week for about 5 hours each time and also do research in a biomedical lab the other 3 days. Is there a good possibility that some serious damage has been done to my unborn child? Some methanol also got on my skin this past Tuesday and I am always breathing in various chemical vapors. In the mean time I have stopped attending lab (since Tuesday when I got the positive test), so I can figure out if I will be okay there or if I should stop for the rest of the pregnancy. And if serious damage could have been done, to look at the options. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any help you may be able to provide.

I would ask your OBGYN what chemicals will do what. Follow their advice on that one.

I absolutely concur with Mrshodges - this is nothing to be "solved" by strangers on the Internet.

You have to speak to your OB/GYN.
