OK,I am NOTa body man,not even all that much into mechanics, but I thought I at least understood how to mix my putties...

Today I mixed from a brand new can, added what I believed the proper amount of hardener, mixed rapidly enough, applied 2 swipes and the stuff was already like gum before a minute was up??

Second round was Bondoglas same ideas, extra hardener(which was suggested by a body man),same results, a swipe or 2 and it went to silly putty then too putty like to spread..

It's been 3 hours, all products are still soft and semi-pliable.

Talk to me people, what did I do wrong?

What did you do wrong?

Hints:
Don't MIX hardener, kneed hardener. There is a difference. Your looking for a consistent color. Once you find the one that gives you the right amount of working time.

Hardener not mixed - never dries

Too little hardener - take FOREVER to dry

Too much hardener - Dries looking at it.

Never use a lot of material at once. 1/8" maximum.

Apply in layers.

Mix on a mixing board. Small amounts, you can use a paper tablet.

I do understand the need to mix the hardener(in the tube first, then on the cardboard),naturally,I didn't do this on the first mix with the bondo,it came out watery and some hardener:(, then with the bondoglas,I did kneed to mix, then added enough for what I believed to be adequate, then a bit more, it still isn't hard more than 12 hour later, still too little I guess..

And this stuff got stiff in like a few minutes, Less is more I guess.

I'll have plenty of time(and holes to fill) to get this down,, just in time to not do it again for another 10-15 years.:D
