Okay. I probably won't understand this even after explained. I just watched the movie 21. The teacher gave the student a problem which I looked up and it is call the Monty Hall Problem. Game show contestant has 3 doors to choose from. Behind one door is a car. Behind the other two is a goat. Contestant chooses Door 1. Host knows what is where and opens Door 3 to reveal a goat. The movie said it is better to switch.
I understand that people want to stay with Door 1 for psychological reasons. But why wouldn't it be a 50/50 chance?
The only way that I can make sense of it is. When choosing Door 1 there was a 1/3 chance. The odds changed when the other door was opened. So why stay with the same door that had a 1/3 chance? Is this reasoning correct at all?
