I do not recall the title of this movie or the actors but the movie is from the 70s/80s about a family who lives in Nevada (USA) during the time of the Second World War. The dad is a wanna-be type guy who was very strict and his main concern is that his radio was working. The mom works at the atomic bomb lab and is constantly questioned by her husband on what is going on at the lab. She could not share the information which makes him angrier at life. They have two daughters, the older one (I believe her movie name is Star) is in her teens. She kept the radio in working order and she is a final contestant (perhaps winner) in the school's spelling bee. I do not recall any information of the younger daughter.

Does this movie sound familiar to anyone and more importantly, does anyone know the name of this movie?
