Just receieved a phone call from a collection agency trying to collect on an 18 year old debt. I filed bankruptcy 15 years ago. Can they still contact me to try and collect on this?

Simply tell them to stop contacting you about a 18 year old debt that was included in bk and that you know there is nothing they can do. In other words tell them to take a hike! You didn't say what kind of debt so I am quessing this is not a student loan because these are not dischargable in bk

Assuming you listed it in the bankruptcy, ( was it included in the debts ?) but you merely tell them that, give them the case number. They can not contact you after that.

If the debt was not covered or discharged in the bankrutpcy, and they don't have a judgement, there is nothing they can do but call you. They can not sue you.

Some debts, taxes, students loans and a few others are not discharged in bankruptcy and have special rules that apply.

So what type of debt ?
Was it included in the bankruptcy ?

The records should still be available, so go get a copy of your filing from the court house.

But it is too old to sue for any longer, as long as you don't make any promice to pay or pay.

Write them and demand they don't contact you any longer.
Send them a letter with the case number of your bankrutpcy telling them it was filed, ( let them prove it was not )
