Hey guys,

I live off the coast of mainland Florida which is very close to the oil spill. There have been reports that there are toxic gases like hydrogen sulfide, methylene chloride and benzene coming out of that oil well. I can't take any chances so I am going to buy a breathing mask to keep myself safe. I don't care if I get laughed at in my daily life activity. At least my body and lungs won't be contaminated. Please help me choose an appropriate respirator so that I can get it immediately before those gas levels get high enough in my area.

North makes some pretty comfortable respirators.

See respirators - North - Lab Safety Supply (http://www.labsafety.com/search/respirators/+-2396/?GoButton=Go)

You need a cartridge Acid gas/organic vapor is common and you need pre-filters for the respirator as well. The P100 traps nearly 100% and the N95 nearly 95% of particulates.

You probably won't have the benefit of "fit testing" and one size doesn't fit all. The simple test that's done each time you wear one, is cover the filters with your hands and try to inhale and exhale. There should not be any leaks. Facial hair compromises respiratory protection.

Full face shields pose problems with glasses.
