Hello all,

Twice this weekend I've had a problem of water flooding from a basement bathroom room. What happens is during a shower, the bathtub drain suddenly stops and water floods out from beneath the wall of the adjacent room. It's especially concerning given that the water is coming into the room with the furnace and water heater. Any idea about what could be wrong here? Thanks.

Do you get any backup from using an upstairs fixture like a bath tub, shower or washer? You have a clog but we may find that it is just isolated to this lower shower. What happens when you flush the toilet in this lower bathroom, any backup?

Nope hasn't happened with the upstairs bath tub yet (knocks on wood). When the bathtub backs up, the toilet stops flushing too.

OK sounds like your clog is limited to the drain after the shower and the toilet but before it connects to your main drain. You ned to rod this bathroom drain. Two options, pull the toilet and rod down that line or rod down the shower drain. Is it a stand aloine shower or a shower/tub?

Do you know what might cause the clog? This is a new bathroom that we've been using for only about a month or so. I use it with a mesh strainer to catch hair going down the drain. Wondering what else we may need to do to stop it from reoccuring.

Toilet and tub are on the same clogged drain line so it could be the toilet. I have found wooden play blocks, action figures, spoons, etc... just never know. If it was just the shower it would likely be hair, grease and dead skin cells. Strainer catch about 10% of the hair. Rod a tub via removing the overflow plate and insert your rod straight down
