I have a 94 cutlass supreme 3.1 AT when I start my car it drops into gear no problem and about after 30 seconds of driving fine in D it falls out of gear stays in a "false neutral state"
Until I turn off the car and let it sit for 20 seconds or so.
I checked the AT fluid and it does seem very dirty but not low.
Can anyone help?

Also, I hear a whine coming from the torque converter area...

You are likely facing a rebuild situation. The outfit below is well-regarded and you may want to contact them:

Jasper Transmissions (http://www.jasperengines.com/transmissions.php)

Next time around, drop and clean the pan, change the filter, and refill with Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF every 30,000 miles on a FWD vehicle. ATXs are the weak link on FWD vehicles. This link should help:

Yes, I'd say you got your money's worth.

Thanks for the help, I changed the filter/fluid and now it shifts and runs like it did in 1994
Maybe my car will go on to see 400,000k\
Thanks once again

That is certainly very good news. Nice job.
