I could not open CD in my Dell Laptop. It gives the following error message.

------ Severe -------
Self-Registration Error: C:/Windows/System32/MacroMed/Flash/Flash.ocx

When I looked into C:/Windows/System32/MacroMed/Flash. It has, besides Flash.ocx,

Flash8.ocx
Flash8b.ocx
Flash9.ocx
SWFlash8.ocx

What should I do to read CD in my PC?

Flash has nothing to do with reading a CD, unless the CD has flash on it. Do other CDs work? Is it a specific one giving you trouble?

Try reinstalling flash if it is a specific CD problem. (www.adobe.com)
Flash is generally used for the splash screen that comes up when you first put a CD into the drive.

You should be able to see the contents by opening windows explorer (My Computer), right click on the CD drive and click explore. That should show you the contents of the CD.

If you can see the contents then there is likely nothing wrong with your drive

Report back after you have tried these :)

Hope this helps..

Thank you for your answer. I realize how hasty I am. I followed your instruction and I could see the content of the CD. I was so accustomed to "click" to open it, and it did not open at my click. I tried other CDs, and they open at my click.

BTW, I tried other DVDs, I can see pictures, but no sound.

Depends on what player you use and what the files are on the DVDs

Scott,
All the DVDs I tried (4 or 5, movies and other instructional info), no sound was coming out. I did not try to change the player from the one selected by my PC.

Then try a different player.

I tried RealPlayer and iTune. It says that it cannot match, and no sound

Sounds like a codec problem

I can recommend this: http://hellninjacommando.com/defilerpak/

It's a year old but I haven't found anythign that it doesn't solve.

Just a collection of codecs.

If that doesn't work try updating your sound drivers.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for all your advices for Scott and Capuchin. No sound problem was, oops, due to the fact the power switch on my speaker system was off. The self-registration error disappeared after I ran several anti-spyware programs several times for the last several days. That must have been affected by malicious or spyware I got around the beginning of December.
