My friend had a grease fire last night. The landlord say she must get out today. Is that legal to kik her out today if she has paid the rent up until the firs of the month.

If the place has sufficient smoke, fire or water damage... yes.
The unit could be considered unsafe for habitation.. and if the Landlord allowed it they could be held liable.

Smoothy, Wouldn't it be up to a fire inspector and sheriff to make the decision on the tenant having to leave and not the landlord though?
Thoughts?
Experts in "tenancy laws" will chime in hopefully.

Well, look at it this way. If there is damage, the tenant refuses to pay the rent because of the damage, and the landlord can't make repairs while the unit is occupied. I think there may be a bit of wiggle room in there that could expose a landlord to liability, maybe a lot depending on where this actually is. We really need to know the general extent of damage from the grease fire from the OP. We are only able to guess at this point.
