I have a really odd fishy smell in my bedroom which comes and goes. I live in an old terrace house which has been converted into 3 flats, my flat is ground floor and my bedroom used to be the old lounge of the house. It has an open fire place but the smell doesn't appear to be coming down the chimney. When the smell does come it only appears to be in one area in the atmosphere of the room and I can't detect it back to any one sourse, it's really strange !

I'm a really tidy person so it's definitely not smelly socks etc, someone please help it's driving me made as I've looked everywhere for a solution!

The smell appears to come at night which is strange again but then is generally gone by the morning, some have said could it be a ghost!

We've been having exactly the same problem in our bedroom and we can't locate the smell. The smell comes at night, the same as yours and is gone in the morning. I don't understand it. It's only in the bedroom.

Had the same problem. I know this is old but this could help others as well. My wife put a 300 watt halogen bulb in my son's room which heated up the light fixture to the point of almost catching fire. The smell was the plastic heating up. Make sure to check electrical outlets as well, any lamps. Hope this helps someone.

By " old lounge " do you mean a washroom? Could be old plumbing vent problems if that's what you mean.

It is most likely the plastic melting on an electrical outlet. Loose wiring can causing arcing which causes the plastic to begin to melt. You smell it at night because that's when you're in your room, watching TV or using a lamp to read. Get your switched and outlets checked by an electrician.
