I have a Casablanca 3 speed fan that is controlled by a wall mounted push button control. Whenever the fan is running, it makes a metallic scraping sound. I tightened everything I could find to tighten, but the problem is still there.

I thought about replacing the fan with a different brand, but was told that is I did that, I would have to also replace the wall mounted control.

I would rather repair the fan. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you

Remove blades and see if noise persist. If it does remove outer housing (cover) an try again. The armature of ceiling fans turn and the outer part stay stationary. Chances are that the outer covering at the lower edge is bent slightly and rubbing against the armature. If noise persist after after removing outer cover it is probably bearings, try lubrication.

I removed the light kit and turned on the fan. The noise was gone, but so was the three speeds. I only have on and off. I also noticed that the ring that are part of the blades were wobbling.

I removed the light kit, fan blades, and housing and found a ring that the blades attach to to be wobbling. I loosened the set screw that secured ring and straightened it and re-assembled everything. The scraping is gone now.

Thank you very much for the help.

Sounds like your flywheel was loose. Sounds like you found it yourself and tighted it. Well done :)
