I have a workshop that sits about 30 yards from my house. The water supply from my house comes from a well right next to the house. I want to run a water supply to the workshop. Would it be OK to tap off the water supply line downstream of the pressure tank and run water to the workshop, or should I tap into the water line upstream of the pressure tank? Or, would be it be better to dig a separate well for the out building?

Do not bother drilling another well, you can tap in after the pressure tank. Where do you live and what is your frost line?

I live in Otsego County, NY. I am pretty sure that I would have to bury the waterline 48" down.

48" sounds about right. Check with the county to be sure. You may need a permit for this.

Thanks for your help.

Once I get the line run, would it help to install a pressure tank in the outbuilding? I don't want to adversely affect the water pressure in the main house too badly.

Yes, you can tap into the line between the pump and the house UNLESS you have a check valve at the tank.

Can't have two tanks. If you try to have two tanks they would have to talk to each other and that would get the pump confused.

You will not affect the water at the house.
