Side by side refrigerator will not dispense water or produce ice but light works and it makes a sound like it's trying to churn ice

Pull the frig out and check the supply line feeding watern to the unit. Supply could be interrupted or a filter is clogged. If both of these issues are fine then its likely the solenoid that opens and closes to allow water in is bad. Make sure that the wire above the ice is flipped down and not up.
