This is a bit of a long story, so please bear with me. My friend recently left an emotionaly abusive relationship. As a result of this, she was homeless for a time and I allowed her to stay in my apartment until she was back on her feet. Her ex-boyfriend continued to contact her claiming that I am a rapist. He has also posted a message on her Facebook wall claiming that I am rapist and also giving information about where I work. This is completley false and is nothing more than an attempt at harming my reputation. I am considering taking legal action against him, but I would like to hear some other people's opinions regarding this matter before I make any decisions. Also, I live in Canada. I agree. If he SUCCEEDS, then you might win a law suit. But, as long as it's just an ATTEMPT, and your reputation is NOT damaged, you won't win the second half of a defamation suit, which is damages. You'll be able to tell when your reputation is damaged when somebody doesn't hire you because of it. Then you'll have measurable damages.
