I just purchased this year a 140 year old 2 story home. I had the upstairs bathroom completely remodeled and the contractor tied into existing galvanized plumbing for a new bathroom sink that was moved to another part of the bathroom area. Now when the tap water is turned on I'm getting a oily smell from the faucet. I've had 2 different plumbing companies take a look and they don't have any ideas. I've only been in the home about a week. None of the other areas has this smell. Can you give me your opinion on what is causing this and how I can handle it. I don't have a lot of options at this time as they tied in with new galvanized piping and it's under new tile and new cabinetry which would be very costly to tear up. The water heater was replaced in this home in 1999. And like I mentioned I don't have the smell in any other areas but just this one. I would appreciate your assistance.
