A friend who I often send pictures to is always asking me to please increase their resolution to at least 1600 pixels. I'm afraid I just don't know how to do it but don't want to tell that.
The pictures I take are with my Nikon Coolpix 885. To me they look just fine but he thinks I should increase resolution for sending. I actually did it fine a few years ago but now have totally forgotten how but I remember it was not at all difficult. I don't want to increase size of picture but just the resolution. Can someone please tell me how to do this? I use XP. Thanks.

It's one of many free image editors that are available out there. You might even be able to do it with programs that came with, or are on your camera. But, I don't really know about those.

Hi, Infanview seems like a terrific viewer and thanks for alerting me. However, I find nothing about increasing or decreasing photo resolution, at least that I can find, and that's what I need. Or else this program is aimed more for pros and my photo skills are just not up to par or at that level yet.

If you click on "Image", you'll find Resize/Resample in the drop-down menu. In the same drop-down menu, you'll find Color Corrections.

Using either or both of those things will allow you to do a lot with the resolution of the image.
