View Full Version : Wires crossed and outlets no longer work

Today I was attempting to replace a wire that had fallen out of place on a cheap lamp I own. After putting the wire back into place, I plugged the lamp into an outlet, and all the electrical outlets in the room quit working. I'm pretty certain that in trying to fix the wires on the lamp, I accidentally left them touching, which then caused the blowouts. I checked the breaker and everything seems to be in order there.

I was wondering how much damage have I caused? Is this easily repairable, or should I call an electrician?

Thanks!

Well I fixed it. It was as simple as a circuit breaker switch I failed to notice in my first look.

Hi, clarkgwc!

That's good that you were able to find the problem! Sometimes it's easy to miss the first time when checking to see if a breaker has tripped.

Thanks!
