My computer is a compaq presario f700 notebook PC. This computer has a wlan switch which can be turned on/off manually. Along with this switch is a light; when switch is ON, the light is supposed to be blue. When switched off it is orange. The problem is my wlan will not connect to my wireless router nor will the light turn blue. The switch is manual so I can put it in its supposed ON position but the light does not change to blue. It stays orange permanately. Can anyone help??

Compaq's web site didn't have much product documentation for this model. So, generally switches like you describe just turn the wireless radio on or off for security or to increase battery life. In order for a connection to made when it is on, both the router's and notebook's wireless configuration will have to match. Have you configured both devices?

I have seen this happen before in two separate situations...
1. The notebook has the option, but the buyer never paid for it in a custom build.
Or
2. The notebook had a wlan card in it and it was either removed or ruined (in need of replacement).
Either way, the light will stay orange.
Good Luck.
