I was driving my car on 05/04/2010 when I pulled out of a gas station I put the car in drive it made a weird like grinding noise and after that my car was fine. Then when I got to my destination I came to a stop sign and the car would not go any further I tried to put it in other gears but that wouldn't work so the only gear that it works is on reverse. I checked the fluids on the transmission and it was really low not marking when the car was idiling so then I went to the store and got transmission fluid I put in 1 quart of fluid then turned on the car and let it run for a minute it still didn't work. What should I do to get this fixed. Can I get a transmission from a junkyard and get someone to put it in. the car has 97,000.00 I got it from an elderly lady and never had any problems with the car. What can you recommend me

ATXs are the weak link in Tauruses and all FWD vehicles. They need to be babied, where you drop and clean the pan, change the filter, and refill with ATF every 30,000 miles. I only recommend full-synthetic ATF on top of this.

Most likely, the clutch packs are shot and you need to either rebuild the current transmission or install a rebuilt. Here's a well regarded outfit you may want to check out:
