I have directions that tell me to use both a split lock and a flat washer on the bolt that is being screwed into wood. I've not seen this before and need to know what order they go on the bolt.

Flat washer would go against the wood. Never heard of a lock (split) washer being use when bolting into wood.

That's OK Harold I never heard of as bolt screwing into wood. Maybe the OP means lag bolt which also needs no lock washer. Maybe the poster can give us more details about what he is doing, a picture would be worth, oh what, maybe a 1000 words.

A lock/split washer is used to keep bolt from getting loose. Therefore it would go against the head of bolt or against the nut for bolt.
Never heard of split washer used with a lag bolt.
