I open my vista to read incoming emails and in 3 or 4 minutes it automatically shuts down into a 'power saving mode', leaving me in the lurch. I don' recall ever telling it to do that, in fact I know I never did, so it leaves me for hours with no means of logging on. How exactly can I put an end to this needless interuption? Thank you very much.

Look in the lower right of your screen for the battery icon. Right click on it and then open the options. Change the mode from "power saving mode" to "full power" mode.

For best results,
a. be sure that you are plugged into electricity when you can.
b. you'll have the option to tell the computer what "power mode" to be in whether it's on battery power or A/C power. Leave it at "power saving mode" when on battery power and have it set for "full power" for when you're plugged in to the wall.

And fyi, When it's in "power saving mode" all you have to do is move the mouse every few minutes to stop it from shutting down.
