My puppy has been using his training pads like an expert and randomly he decides he will NOT use them anymore and uses the floor. He even went to the extent of urinating on my boyfriend who is raising him along with me. What has caused this sudden change in a matter of hours, and what can we do?

That is the number one reason why puppy pads are a horrible training aid. Dogs don't know the difference from a puppy pad and the actual floor. Its all the same thing.

My advise. Ditch the pads completely and start house training for potty outside. Its going to be a bit more difficult sincr the pup has learned to potty on the floor, but it can be done. Put the pup on a routine and don't break it even for a min. Disinfect the floor with an enzyme based to help get rid of the smell of urine and feces. You may want to introduce a crate to help keep your pup in one place to inhibit him from sneaking off and pottying in the house..

Whatever you do, don't use potty pads!

How old is the puppy and how long have you been training him? What breed is he? Is there a reason for training him to use pads?

He may be finding a way to attempt to try his boundaries. Which is where consistency becomes a major factor. As Lucky said, training him to go exclusively outside is your best option for a 'clean house'.

Training him to use the bathroom outside has many benefits.

1. No confusion over where the bathroom is
2. Exercise
3. Obedience practice if you take him on walks to go potty
4. Breaks up his routine and reduces boredom.

Good luck.

What caught my eye about your post is this;

What has caused this sudden change in a matter of hours

If this is a case of this occurring within a matter of hours when he was doing fine before, then you need to go to a vet. This could be a physical problem such as a bladder infection.

I agree with Lucky and Cat that puppy pads are horrible and not a good training tool. It's called laziness on the part of the owner, and they don't work long term.

Get him checked to make sure he's healthy and then start training him to go outside.

Good luck.
