Need some advice about a hypothetical situation. A crime happens in your neighborhood and police are questioning everyone. Police ask where you were at a certain time and place. You are innocent and were either home or running errands. However, you have no alibi and no one can vouch for your wherabouts. I've heard that you should always refuse to answer such a question because you could incriminate yourself by mistake, but how can you refuse to answer questions without appearing suspicious? It seems like a damned if you do, damned it you don't kind of situation.

You should never answer any question about a criminal investigation where you are a suspect without an attorney
