my friend has a 1999 Jetta. He just got the car a few weeks back and last week the trunk light in the dash (trunk is open indicator) goes on every time the car turns on and beeps and yells at him. When the car sits in the parking lot, occasionally the alarm will go off at random times as if someone was trying to get into the trunk/car. We thought the problem might be the latch itself not engaging so we went to the dealership and bought a new latch and replaced the old one... nothing happened, same problem still stands. Any suggestions on what to look at/for? Thanks
