View Full Version : Can't open or save attachment from email/IE using Vista

I'm using Vista Home Ed, IE, and my ATT email acct. I cannot open or save any attachments - word or excel docs. I recently "restored" my system after a VistaDefender virus attack. When the pop-up for the file location comes up for the save option, it "saves", then the windows sounds for blocking it, and when "searching" for the file, it is not on my PC anywhere. I have disabled my firewall, turned off pop-up blocker, and gone through my web security options. I cannot find any setting that is 'wrong'. My PC is working fine, otherwise. *please help* thanks!

Try disabling antivirus, you may have antispam enabled that will not allow attachments - try to maybe just disable the antispam function and/or email part of antivirus app

Or disable altogether

OK, I tried that. The only anti-virus software that is running is the windows defender. Which I turned off. Turned off the file wall. Turned off pop-up blocker. Even went into windows email (which I do not use) and turned off blocking attachments.

Still... I cannot download (i.e. open or save) an file attachment from my web-based email.

*please help*!! Thanks!!

ANSWER!

Ok. From another ask/help forum the person stated AVG and Windows Defender conflicted. This caused the inability to download, open or save files from the internet.

They also stated uninstalling AVG corrected the problem.

For me... AVG uninstall (the version already on my hard drive) was ineffective (received error msg: installer not working). So, I saved AVG 9.0 to a jump drive from another PC. Installed in on my PC, then uninstalled it.

SUCCESS!

I can now download, save and open files from the internet.
