Hello, My boyfriend just decided what he wanted to do with his life finally. He wants to become a police officer. We currently live in New Jersey and decided to reside here for some time. My question is what are the steps to becoming a police officer in New Jersey, what requirements will he have to complete, will he need to complete college courses. I would also like to know a police officer average salary if possible. Anything advice or info will be helpful. I just need a start to get him to start pursuing his dream. Thanks :)

A college degree is helpful, there are law enforcement ( criminal justice majors) but really any degree can help.

Most law enforcement is fairly low paying for the hours you will put in, no holidays off, ( often working longer hours on holidays) many times no overtime pay in a lot of departments and more.

Pay can run in the 30,000 to the 50000 depending on many factors

Also be willing to move , many small towns are great places to start
