Hi there.

I had braces for 1year and 10 months , in last week I got them off. My uppper teeth are straight, but there is a gap between the pre-molar with my first molar. It is hardly visible but I do not understand why my orthodontist couldn't close the gap and just take off my braces .

Secondly problem gives me major headache. :( my lower right central is slightly slanted and the tooth beside it, lower right lateral is not straight and it is slightly pushed backward .

I have told him that the teeth are not straight but he just replied : no worries we could trim them later.

I am getting the retainer in few days. But now I am truly worried sick about my teeth . :(

Can anyone tell me how can a tooth that is slanted be trimmed? Why didn't he fix it with braces in the first place? Or can retainer to the work?
How can he fix them now without braces now?

I really would like some input if any one has had the same experience or if there are dentists/orthos on this site. Thanks a lot.

I'm not sure what you mean by "slanted". Do you mean tipped toward the lip or tongue?

Here is a pic sorry it's a bit blurry. Notice the right central is not upright

OMG SORRY I circled the wrong teeth! The teeth in the red circle are fine. It is the 2 teeth beside the circle that I'm worrying about

This is the better pic please just ignore the first one. U can see the right lateral is slightly backwards and the right central is not upright

The retainer might help move those teeth in to place. Make sure your orthodontist is aware you are not happy with their position and have him make a note in your chart about it. He should be able to make the retainer tidy things up for you.

So a retainer can actually move the teeth? Because I thought it is just to retain the teeth at their positions.
Three weeks before I could consult the orthodontist again. I just hope that time will pass faster because I couldn't stand it when I look into the mirror. Thanks for your response flossie because this situation is really driving me nuts now

I have seen retainer wires be slightly altered to move a tooth, so I think he should be able to do it. Are you saying you have to wait 3 weeks before the retainer gets cemented in?
WOW! It's normally just a few days.

Well I'm getting the retainer in this week (thats what he said) but another dentist will be there to teach me how to deal with the retainer. I know its weird but he is like, working for few dental clinics and he will only be around at the one I go to once a month. I really hate this because I just couldn't find him if anything happens.
Do you know the braces I wore couldn't make the teeth straight ?

I don't see why the braces wouldn't have put the teeth in to proper position. Is the orthodontist going to continue seeing you after the retainer is cemented in?

Yes I will be seeing him again. I really hope that he would fix the teeth for me otherwise I will go totally nuts :(

Just keep telling him you aren't happy until you are!:D

Is it unusual to have one or two teeth remain crooked/slanted even after the braces? I wonder why. And do you think I should ask him to put braces back on again if he couldn't fix them with the retainer?

Thanks a lot flossie even though the teeth are still freaking me out :( guess I'll just wear the retainer and wait for the next appointment.
