My husband was murdered 2 years ago, He worked for Vista Paints for a few years then he was a Manager for Lowe's in Moreno Valley I know he had a 401K at both places. How do I find out if me or His two children are Intitled to that money?

Two quick suggestions:

1. If your husband had a 401(k) account the plan administrator should be sending out quarterly statements to his home address of record. So check the mail to see if these statements are coming. If you find these statements, they should have information on how to contact the plan administrator (which is typically a bank, life insurance company, or investment company like Vanguard or Fidelity).

2. Call the HR depatrment at his former employers and ask - they will know and should be able to tell you how to proceed. While you're at it, also ask whether he had a life insurance policy through work (many employers provide free life insurance for active employees, often equal to a year's pay or more), or if there are any other benefits due to you.

My husband passed away 9/7/11 and hew as still employed with his company. They will not work with me there are several problems going on this, they will not send me his paystubs... they will not pay for his ins he make for but they did pay me the 10,00.00 dollars of life ins they offered him when they hired him also they of fed him 401k.. but this company will not tell me anything... my husband with to a mental hospital and someone inside the company told his employees that he had been in a mental hospital. Because we got a phone call from a former employee from Huntsville al and we live in Foley al... so me and my husband filed an hippo claim against this company I need some help I a widow and I can't even to start to grief over my husband because I have had problem after another and this is becoming a BIG PROBLEM...

vernarb: It's hard to help you if you can't be specific about exactly what you would like to know. Has the company HR department explained to you why they won't tell you about his 401(k)? Usually you have to deal with a separate company that actually manages the 401(k) plan - not your husband's employer but an investment company such as Vanguard or Fidelity that acts as plan administartor. Do you know who the administrator is? It should be clear from the quarterly 401(k) statements that he received.
