Hello my wife is an American citizen I am from England I just moved here (To America ) and we got married - I am awaiting my visas etc.. So have no social security number don't work or earn any money as I'm not allowed yet ! And can't get until I finish filing it all.
Now she is trying to file her taxes and can't because it keeps asking for a social number for me which I don't have , the guys in H&R Block had no answers for us
Her ex husband claims both her 2 children so all she has to claim is herself !
Now I have read about putting NRA in the SSN box will this work? Also what and how exactly should she be claiming as married or single ?
Also will putting NRA work if we go to H&R Block or does it have to be done another way ?
Please any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

She can file joint return or as married filing separately.
On separate return write "N R A" for SSN for spouse.
On joint return, attach W-7 for spouse. On joint return, both must report worldwide income. If you paid taxes in the foreign country, you will claim credit for taxes paid in the foreign country by filing Form 1116 or can file form 2555 Foreign Earned Income Exclusion Your U.S. Tax Return: U.S. Citizen or Resident with Foreign Income (http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/03/us-citizen-or-resident-with-foreign.html)
