Hello, so my father got my mother to sign over custody of me when I was about 13 or 14, claiming he would take care of me since she couldn't, do to illness. When he got the documentation he needed, he left me with his family members and moved to another state. I eventually ended up back with my mom, he basically abandoned me. The killer part is somehow he was able to file child support, and now the child support agency going after my mother. She cannot afford legal advice or counsel, and the collection agency isn't working with her even though she has documentation proving I've been with her the whole time. I'm an adult now, and I'm really worried about what my mother will do because she cannot afford to pay money she doesn't owe. What can we do about this?

She needs to go to court to prove that you have been living with her and not him. The collection agency does not care about where you live they are going off the court order to collect. The only way to get it stopped or lessened is for her to get back into court.

What exactly are they asking for? Arrears? Or current support?

I'm not sure about what their trying to collect, I just know they've been sending her letters since I was 16 years old.
