HI
I had an old credit card debt from 2000-01 It was later sold and it was removed from my credit report. Now I am receiving a summons saying I owe them money. It it no longer on my credit report and my credit is great what do I do. How do I dispute this and if it isn't on my report then do I technically owe this third party the money.

Whether the debt is on your credit report or not, has no bearing on whether you owe it. Are you denying that you incurred the original debt?
If the third party legally purchased the debt from your original creditor then you owe them the money. Now there may be a statue of limitations on how long they have to sue your for the debt. If that SOL hasn't passed they can file and obtain a judgement that they can use to attach your bank account or garnish your salary.
If you want to keep your credit great, pay the debt.

Is it a summons ( from the court) a summons is a notice to go to court for a hearing.
Or are you receiving a letter from a collection firm, make to look like a legal summons ( a common trick to make you think it is a legal document)
If you actually owe the debt, and want to keep good credit, you pay it.
If it is a real summons, then they are planning legal action and you will have to appera in court and present your evidence on the debt

How can I tell the difference if it is a real legal document or a letter from a collection firm made to look like one. What evidence do I present on the debt.

Go to the court request the court copy of the paper work you received. If not filed there than it is fake.

what if it is legit
Than file notice of intent to defendant and makethem proof their claim, if SOL is up they don't have a case. If still valid, than pay the debt.
