I actually thought of that too. But because of family history I over-analyzed and dismissed that thought. I also didn't think that this could cause so much bleeding.

They're really large J and there are lots of them. The bleeding is because of the size and the IBS, at least that's what the specialist told me, or R, because I was still half asleep. ;)

You had every right and reason to worry. And, as your friends, so did we.

You know, maybe it's because I'm young and stupid and still convince I, and everyone around me, am immortal, or maybe it's because I'm an optimist who believes in the power of positive thought, but I never really thought this WOULDN'T turn out OK.

Clough, I can't remember anything of the actual colonoscopy. I was knocked out. In fact, I'm told they gave me extra meds because "I have a sensitive bottom and I wouldn't allow them in". ;)

The actual procedure is a piece of cake, I dozed through the whole thing, dozed after, was woken up but still dozed. Slept all the way home, slept 6 hours after I got home and then just got up for a few minutes only to crawl into bed again.

The absolutely worst part of it is the day before and the 4 litres of vile fluid you have to drink.

At 2pm I had to take two pills (I don't remember the name) then at 4pm I had to start drinking the liquid, 8oz every 10 minutes until it's all gone.

When it was half gone I actually cried because I couldn't imagine drinking the other half, but I did.

At 8pm I had to take three pills (another prescription, don't recall the name).

I had prepared for all of this by buying the super soft toilet paper. The best that money can buy.

The liquid turns your fecal matter into water. You do not venture far from the facilities. You are literally afraid to sneeze! That is the worst part.

When I arrived at the hospital I was checked in, weighed and then an IV was put in. I got to wear the beautiful blue floral hospital gown. I was wheeled into the procedure room on a stretcher and the doctor and I talked for a few minutes. He was wonderful, great bedside manner.

Then the nurse started the sedatives. I remember 2 different injections into the IV, then things get fuzzy.

The next thing I remember is the nurse trying to wake me up in the recovery room.

That's about it. :)

Unky, the surgery wouldn't be that bad, honestly. They just band the rhoids, that means that they put a tight elastic like band around them, cut off the circulation and they just fall off after a while.

I have a feeling that that is in my future, but it's better then cancer any day. :)

What a difference from the dark ages of the '40s and '50s when Grandma was trundled off during the night to the hospital and came back pale and shaky two weeks later with not a word said by anyone during any of it. Talk about secrecy and fear regarding hospital procedures and surgery!

For #1]

Hopefully they did not find anything or if they did, they were able to remove it [ a polyp ] on the spot. If not, there is a staging system based on the actual tumor [T] if it spread to lymph nodes [N] or to other organs [M].

The higher the stage the worse the prognosis.

Selected prognostic factors and 5-year relapse-free survival in patients with colorectal cancer, based on the Mayo Clinic calculator (http://www.mayoclinic.com/calcs) for population of patients aged 60-69 years (data regarding numbers of lymph nodes analyzed is from Le Voyer el al, 200313 ) are as follows (prognostic factor, 5-year relapse-free survival):

T3N0 (11-20) nodes analyzed – 79%
T3N0 low grade – 73%
T3N0 (≤ 10 lymph nodes examined) – 72%
T3N0 high grade – 65%
T4N0 low grade – 60%
T4N0 high grade – 51%
T3N1 – 49%
T3N2 – 15%

Don't worry about it Kit, it's not the first time I've had some little twit give me a reddie because she/he is immature and doesn't want to hear the truth. It won't be the last time either. ;)

Sinuses. I wrote a thread called antip biotics, I'm on my second dose of Avelox, still no relief. I had to get antibiotics through an IV last night, which gave me relief right up until I woke up this morning. I am starting to get two shiners under both eyes from the pressure. My hair is falling out, I hate my job, my house is a mess, my face is all broken out. I feel and look like crap. I want to bawl my eyes out right now. But instead I have to sit here and listen to by boss grunt at me.

Again, not a fan. The book was okay, but one reading was enough for me, as is with most "classics" that are considered a must read.

I love reading, I'm always reading, and I'll read anything, or at least give it a shot. With "Watership Down" I was so bored I almost cried. I mean come on, here's a book about rabbits, it's right up my alley, but boy oh boy did I have to force myself to read every word. I kept thinking "this is a classic? Really? Why, because someone said so?" I also kept hoping it would get better. It didn't. :(

I love "Thorn Birds", even though it's not a so called classic it is worth a read. My all time favorite book that I can and often do read over and over again is "Swan Song". I just love that book, even though I know the whole thing, can quote most of it and definitely know how it ends, I can still read it when there's nothing new at my disposal.

As for "Watership Down" it's on my shelf, collecting dust, but I can't give it away, after all, it's a "classic". :(

Bella you liked Catcher in the Rye! People think I'm nuts because I hated "Jane Erye" and "Little Women". I loved "To Kill a Mockingbird" and Brave New World.

I hated the book "Little Women" but loved the movie, the one with Winona Ryder. :)

Not a fan of "Jane Eyre", sadly not a fan of "To Kill a Mockingbird" and I've never heard of "Brave New World". Who's the author?

It's a book that was lent to me--I wouldn't have picked it up on my own, like--EVER.

One of the better books I've read for that sort of book. Think "Tuesdays at Maury's" sort of book. Absolutely wonderful.

I like Dan Simmons, though, but I've not read Drood yet.

NOW were getting somewhere, Both of you have good tastes,, I offer you to partake in Donaldson's 'Thomas Covenant:The Unbeliever' series,it started back in the early 80's and just now he has written the last of them,, it really drew me in, and nowadays you can get the original prints CHEEP!

Gemmell is into war, pre King Arthur, during some Roman, but not called as such,he was always skirting historical reference to those eras.

I liked the Unbeliever books the FIRST time I read them. The first 6 books, anyway.

I think I was 13.

They're kind of "eh" to me now--it seems too simplistic, with characters that are too hard to empathize with.

Trying to think of an author's name here, driving me crazy. She wrote the "Tiger and Del" series, and the "Song of Homana" books--and I know her last name starts with an R because of where she is on my bookshelves, but I can't think of her name.
