My wife and I are retired and collecting Social Security. Our home is paid for, but we have credit card debt we cannot pay. Can the credit card company put a lien on our home or get our social security checks?

I hope by now you have seen the many similar questions already answered. They are on the side or bottom of the page.

They may not garnish your social security.

They may sue you and get a judgement, what they may do depends on where you live ( what state if in the US)

In some states, they may freeze your bank accounts and take any money that is not from SS. And in some states they may put a lien on your home.
In some they may not.

Have you looked into a budge to start making payments on this debt

Hi, kkalligher!

Have you called them and spoken with them personally to see if something can be worked out as far as making payments? Calling them would be the first thing that I would suggest trying.

Around where I live, if they go to court and win a judgement, they can put a lien on a home.

Thanks!
