How can I obtain a birth certificate without my mothers maiden name. I was dropped off at a children's home in 1951 by my mother and raised there until age 18. All I know is mom's 1st name, Irene, and the home is no longer there but, they had no records on me other then my name. In Indiana they will not grant you a birth cert. unless you can supply the mothers maiden name and explaining the circumstances has not helped. I need the birth cert. to receive medical assistance in Calif. Please help if you can. Thanks!

Do you have other circumstances of your birth? For instance, do you know what hospital you were born in?

If no information is known then you may be able to substitue a birth certificate with a placement certificate. In many cases with closed adoptions there is no real way to trace back beyond that. So maybe you need to find out if that is an option. Because from the sounds of it you were adopted out to the people (institution) that cared for you.

Custody had to be changed to put you into a "childrens home" So have you contacted CPS about their file on you
