I pled guilty to a grand theft charge and was adjudicated but I'm on probation until I pay my restitution but I won't finish paying it for at least 7 yrs and I have no steady job is there any way to get off paying back the restitution?

You could spend some time in jail/prison in lieu of paying off the restitution. You need to ask your attorney if this is a possibility for you. If no, then you will have to pay it off in full or violate your probation. This is strictly up to your sentencing Judge though should you be violated for not paying restitution.

Normally not, it was YOUR plea deal, you could have course go to prison for non payment, but even thing most likely you will still owe restitution. It will get rid of any fines.

Remember if you don't keep up with an approved payment schedule the PO can violate you and send you to prison

Hello yr:

Sometimes they let your probation end and the restitution becomes a civil matter. Sometimes, like my friends have said, they don't.
