I've been trying (and failing) to recollect the names of two cartoons from my childhood (late 80s - early 90s)

1 - An older childrens' animated series that was shown on cable / sky TV, centred around another fantasy style world. It involved slim blue humanoid aliens and seemed to revolve around a giant chess board.

2 - A girl's cartoon series or possibly film. The characters had some sort of control about night/day or stars or dreams. There was a song which went something along the lines of:
"When celeste turns out the night. And the dream is set aside ...
When lydnsey sets is all in the machine, and out pops a crystal glowing white
And we’ll take it on far to a something something star
"

Not much help, but any bells rung?

Oh my goodness you are amazing!

The Moondreamers if definitely right - thanks, it's been driving me nuts! I've even found the song on you-tube:

The Bleu, l'Enfant de la Terre may be right. To be honest as I have only vague memories of it, on top of few you-tube clips, it is difficult to tell.

Thanks again!
