My 16 week old puppies have just completed their vaccinations and we have started walking them outside. However neither of them has pooped or had a wee on their walks, but they do both as soon as they are back in our garden :-( we have tried walking them at various times, including first thing in the morning - not letting them out and asking them to go as we would when we let them into the garden but nothing. We have even taken our resident older dog with us and praised him in front of them when he performs but no response! We are particularly frustrated as the person we bought the puppies from hadn't had them vaccinated and they were 11 weeks old when we got them - this has considerably delayed their socialisation as they have only recently been able to go out. They have spent the last 5 weeks confined to the garden & kitchen and have done so very well settling in and with their housetraining etc! HELP!

Some dogs will never poop out on a walk.
My parents had a Great Dane who would spend 6 hours at a dog show and not poop or pee once.

What's wrong with them going in your garden... it's better than your house!

I agree unfortunately I have a tiny garden which thanks to the English weather now has no grass and is a mudbath! I would quite like a bit of a lawn in spring as well as puppies that eliminate mostly on their walks!

What about a dog park? Or an open field? My female won't poop on walks, and we have to be walking for quite some time before she pees either. As soon as we get in the yard, away she goes, usually right in front of my step too! :mad:

Are you able to take them to an open field or dog park and let them off the lead? Sometimes, it's being teathered to the leash that makes them more hesitant to eliminate while on walks.

I agree, if the garden is not an option you could try letting them free run (if they are trained to recall) in an enclosed dog park.

Or you could get an extandable leash. I'm not a fan of them but in your case it might work for them to be further away from you.

I like using the horse leads. You can get them at any pet whole saler. They are really long, and work excellent for re-call training. You can ones with really small light clips as well, and when they older and bigger you can just replace the clips.
