I have a Samsung eternity cell phone that I have been using to record video of my baby cousin. I put the videos on a microSD card and used an SD card adapter to play them on my new toshiba satellite laptop. The problem is the videos will play but there is no sound. I have already made sure the volume was up on the media player as well as the computer itself. I plan to burn these home videos onto dvds. Is there any way to fix this problem? Also, I am just now learning how to use the computer so I still don't know a lot of the technical terms so plain English would help, lol. Thank you for your time.

Many videos take what's called a codec. What that does is translate the video information into a format the computer can use. It might be possible that you don't have the correct codec installed. What you might try doing also is installing another video player and see if that works. Something like Divx. It can be found on the net and its free.

As mentioned, you made need the codec for the audio to play through.
What file format is the video?
What version of windows, win 7 or Vista.

Thanks for the help. I don't really know what the file format is. I have Windows 7 on my laptop. I just purchased it this year and its my first computer so I don't know much yet. I think the videos might be mp4, Im not sure if that's what the format is or not. I will try installing another video player too.

Are you running 32 bit windows 7 or 64 bit?
If running 32 bit, download this and install with recommended settings and you should have no problem playing your files.
|MG| Win7codecs 2.3.9 Final Download (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Win7codecs_d5959.html)
If you are running 64 bit windows, download and install above and then install this addition for 64 bit and again, download and install with recommended settings
|MG| x64 Components 2.4.3 Final Download (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5535)
After above installed, you should have no issues any longer

Okay, I think I got it. Its playing with sound now. It was turned sideways but I'm pretty sure I can rotate it. Thank you so much califdadof3 and seahwk83! :-)
