A friend of mine was on probation for 1 yr which was up at the end of January. He received a letter stating he was in violation of probation due to not paying all fines and fees and was ordered to appear in court. This was the only violation made, he showed up to ALL scheduled appointments and took all ordered classes. He was laid off from work and half of the unemployment payments go to child support which left him very little to live on. Not that this is an excuse but it does cost money to live. My question is what's the chances of him doing jail time for not paying the fines/fees?

Depends on the mood of the Judge on any particular day - he did not complete probation as ordered. It would appear that he might not be able to complete the terms of probation due to his unemployment.

If he cannot complete probation, yes, he will go to jail.

If he can, he probably will be ordered to complete the terms.

Key phrase, his probation was suppose to be up in Jan, since he did not complete the terms of it, then it does not just end.

Georgia has had a test case that ruled you can not be jailed for merely not paying your fees,
Not sure how it is going to fly as it goes up the appeal process

But it is possible to go to jail for not paying these
