I have a question – I am US citizen and filed I-130 for my father who got the immigration IR5 category visa and just came to USA. Now he is wishing to go back for 1 yr but he still has not received his green card in mail yet. He will make an entry back in USA before the 1 yr guideline but my question is can he travel before receiving his actual green card in mail? (there is stamp on his passport which mentions “Upon endorsement serves as temp i-551 PR for 1 yr”)

Is that sufficient to travel back overseas for less than 1 yr or does he need to wait for actual green card in mail? (we can always send him the actual green card to overseas address so he has it for traveling back to USA before the 1 yr requirement is near) let me know please. Thanks again for quick response.

If he already has I-551 stamped on his passport, file I-131 and get approval before he leaves or he may not be able to return.
