I'm considering fitting my cottage with electric gel filled radiators to replace the very old storage heaters. Would they be more economical to run? Are they more economical / efficient than ordinary oil filled radiators, or modern storage heaters? I am a landlord and the cottage is for let. I find that generally people do not like storage heaters because they are "on" when people are out at work, and most view this as wasteful. Storage heaters are also not very controllable.

Electric resistance heat of any type is about 100% efficient so do not waste your money or get talked into a upgrade since the utility cost will be the same. The only way to save on the utility bill when using electric for heating is to get a heat pump system.
