I'd love to find a book I read as a child. I have no idea of the title or author. I am currently 40 and grew up in Sydney and read the book when I was about 10. It was a strange story about a group of children who are locked in a maze of stairs for some reason. The stairs go up and down forever and there are some small platforms and I remember they were put through tests and experiments like lab rats. Their reward was a squishy pink pellet and water. It was a really amazing story and quite cruel at times. One of the characters was a selfish, fat girl who would do pretty much anything, including hurting the other children, to get the pink food pellets.

Anyone out their read this story or know any further details?
