Hello all,

Me and my husband are married but live and work (both H1B) in different states WI and IL. We are planning to file federal 1040 as Married Filing Jointly. I was wondering if anyone knows how to file WI and IL taxes with respect to filing status. What forms do we have to file so that only that states income is considered for state tax calculations?

Thanks,
Aarti

Normally, states require that you file in the same way you filed your federal tax return. For one state you are resident and will report your income. Your spouse is nonreisdent and does not have any income. Similar treatment for the second state.
